Our Fashion & Textiles students visit No. 10!
Last Friday, our lucky 6.2 Fashion & Textiles students visited No. 10 Downing St. Invited by Mrs Murthy, wife of PM Rishi Sunak, they were taking part in the ‘Lessons at 10’ session – an initiative developed by Mrs Murthy where she engages with students of all ages and interests from across the UK. Given that September is fashion month, Mrs. Murthy decided to focus on the world of fashion and celebrate by welcoming the next generation of aspiring fashion industry professionals.
There was a panel discussion featuring Mrs. Murthy herself, Clare Hornby, the Founder of the renowned UK fashion label Me&Em, and Emily Cronin, a senior fashion journalist. They shared insights about their experiences in the fashion industry, their personal career journeys, the challenges they’ve encountered, and the inspiration that fuels their passion. The engaging discussion was followed by a lively Q&A session, during which our students posed a range of thought-provoking questions.
Following the ‘Lessons at 10’ session, our students were treated to an unforgettable tour of 10 Downing Street. They had the privilege of exploring famous rooms such as the state room, Cabinet Room, dining room, and other historic settings. Our tour guides regaled the group with fascinating stories about the artwork, intriguing facts, and iconic moments in history that have unfolded within these walls.
As if the day couldn’t get any more special, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak himself made a surprise appearance to say hello to our group as he made is way to a live broadcast in the next room. It was a delightful moment that left a lasting impression on our students.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Murthy and the fantastic team at 10 Downing Street for this incredible opportunity. It was a day filled with inspiration, learning, and memories that will last a lifetime. This visit not only offered a glimpse into the world of fashion but also allowed our students to connect with influential figures and experience the rich history of one of Britain’s most iconic landmarks.
